The History Of Swords

Edged weapons have been a part of our history for as long as records have been kept. In fact, some of the earliest tools used by primitive man were sharpened pieces of stone.
Swords and knives have played a significant role in every major civilization. Even in today`s modern society, swords are used in many of the most important military or state ceremonies and functions. Think about the commercials for the U.S. Marine Corps and how they focus on the Marine saber, or the knighting ceremony performed by the Queen of England where a sword is used to touch the shoulders of the knighted individual.

It was an event that shook the world. July 10th 1985, the Greenpeace ship Rainbow Warrior lay keeled to one side in Auckland harbour, New Zealand, after two bombs had ripped it apart around midnight. One crew member, Fernando Pereira, was dead. As time and an intensive investigation went on, the truth became inescapable - the French secret service were responsible and the French government had ordered the bombing.

ATLANTIS
In the tradition of antiquity, a large island in the Western Ocean (the ocean to the west of the known world), near the Pillars of Hercules. The first recorded accounts of Atlantis, which is said to have been engulfed by the ocean as the result of an earthquake, appear in Timaeus and Critias, two dialogues by Plato. According to the account in Timaeus, the island was described to the Athenian statesman Solon by an Egyptian priest, who maintained that Atlantis was larger than Asia Minor and Libya combined. The priest further revealed that a flourishing civilization centered on Atlantis reputedly about the 10th millennium BC, and that the nation had conquered all the Mediterranean peoples except the Athenians. In Critias, Plato records the history of Atlantis and depicts the nation as a utopian commonwealth. Although Plato`s descriptive material and history are probably fictional, the possibility exists that he had access to records no longer extant.
