Mr. D.M. Wijesooriya a.k.a. ?PATIYA? has served in the staff of Royal College, Colombo 7 from 1988/89 - 2004. To my knowledge he has been a master in charge of a grade 11 class and has taught Science (please note that the information I have in this regard is limited. He has probably taught other subjects) for O/L students during the course of the 15 years he rendered his services to Royal College.

His wife is diagnosed with Cancer and has been under medication for a large number of years. He has two children who are still studying. Due to these reasons his savings have dried up.

You may remember the cancer affected university student, piyumal Gunawardana. He underwent his surgery on 16th of March at Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore. It was a long surgery which took more than 12 hours. His cancer tumor was removed there. As a result of that his tongue and jaws were also removed (I learnt that altogether 2 kilos were removed). Doctors have reconstructed his tongue at that surgery, but they say they will have to wait about an year to replace the jaws.

At the moment, Piyumal is in the hospital recovering from the surgery. He will have to undergo radiotheraphy and chemotheraphy later to assure the cancer doesn`t rise back. Most probably he will return to Sri Lanka before mid April. After an year, he will have to undergo another surgery for replacing the jaws.

Hey, guys this a picture of Piyumal in hospital in Singapore which I receieved from his family today. Thought some of you might want to see it.

Piyumal Gunawardana, a mechanical engineering student(3rd year-currently excused from acadamic activities due to his health condition) of the university of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka is diagnosed with `squamous cell carcinoma` which is cancer in the tongue and throat.
The treatment includes the removal of his tongue and a part of the jaw bone to be replaced with a bone removed from his leg and surgery in the vocal codes in addition to chemotherapy and radiotheory which he has already undergone.
