Secret of Sir Richrad Hadlee - Do you like to know the secret of the success of Sir Richard Hadlee of New Zealand? Saturday, 17 November 2007 - 12:08 AM SL Time

Somebody asked Richard Hadlee, ?How is it that every time you bowl, you get five or more wickets in an innings??

Hadlee, thought for a second and said, ?A day before the match, when I sleep, I dream of getting many wickets. On the day of the match, as I walk up to the bowling crease, I visualize the wicket tumbling the other side. I bowl and the wicket tumbles.?

This is the power of mind!

A rare South China tiger has been seen in the wild for the first time in decades, according to reports from China`s official Xinhua news agency.
The sighting, which came after a farmer handed in some pictures, surprised researchers who feared the tiger was extinct.

The tiger is critically endangered and was last sighted in the wild in 1964.

The farmer, who took the pictures at the beginning of this month, lives in Shaanxi province.

Ships asked to avoid whale route Friday, 12 October 2007 - 1:55 AM SL Time

The endangered right whale is to get extra protection after a safe haven from shipping was set aside off Nova Scotia in Canada.
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) ratified a Canadian proposal to designate the 1,800-sq-km zone an `Area to Be Avoided` at a meeting in Denmark.

The voluntary restriction asks ship captains to steer around the area.

Collisions with container ships are seen as a key threat to right whales, thought to number just 400.

Warmth makes the world more humid Thursday, 11 October 2007 - 2:51 AM SL Time

The atmosphere is becoming more humid in a pattern consistent with man-made climate change, researchers have found.

Their study, reported in the journal Nature, confirms the global increase in humidity found in previous studies.

They say that the pattern of humidity increases in various parts of the world resembles that projected by computer models of man-made global warming.

Water vapour is a greenhouse gas, and it is thought that having more of it in the air could amplify temperature rise.

And I love you so By Perry Como dedicated to our very own chief Lalith Wednesday, 10 October 2007 - 5:01 AM SL Time

A great song, just for a special evening for all that reminicences.

And I love you so
The people ask me how
How I`ve lived `til now
I tell them I don`t know

I guess they understand
How lonely life has been
But life began again
The day you took my hand

And yes I know, how lonely life can be
The shadows follow me
And the night won`t set me free
But I don`t let the evening get me down
Now that you`re around me

And you love me too
Your thoughts are just for me

MS nerve damage repaired in lab Wednesday, 10 October 2007 - 1:36 AM SL Time

US scientists have repaired the nerve damage caused by multiple sclerosis in lab experiments on mice.
The team, from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, hope their work will eventually lead to new treatments.

MS is caused by a defect in the body`s immune system, which turns in on itself, and attacks the fatty myelin sheath which coats the nerves.

The researchers used a human antibody to re-grow myelin in mice with the progressive form of MS.

They told a meeting of the American Neurological Association they hope to begin patient trials after perfecting the technique further in animal tests.

Hip size `gives cancer risk clue` Tuesday, 9 October 2007 - 5:17 PM SL Time

Women whose mothers have big hips may be more likely to develop breast cancer, research suggests.
A study led by the University of Southampton found breast cancer rates were more than three times higher among women whose mothers had wide hips.

Rates were more than seven times higher if those mothers had already given birth to one or more children.

The American Journal of Human Biology study suggests high levels of the sex hormone oestrogen are to blame.
