Swimsuit Evolution Wednesday, 27 May 2009 - 3:51 AM SL Time

By Abi Slone

Bikinis may be a pain in your behind, but they`re nothing new. Almost 2,500 years ago in Greece women were already feeling the freedom the liberal bathing garment afforded. But with the fall of the Roman Empire and the influence of more prudish Europeans, it was time to cover up and be conservative. The road back to the bikini has been a long one. Take a trip and watch the evolution of the swimsuit.

Early 1800s : A two-piece consisting of a blouse and a skirt that fell just below the knee was common swimming attire for women. Lead weights were often added to the hem to prevent them from riding up. (credit: Photo by Hulton Archive/Getty Images)

The electron beam of the SEM interacts with atoms near or at the surface of the sample to be viewed, resulting in a very high-resolution, 3D-image. Magnification levels range from x 25 (about the same as a hand lens) to about x 250,000. Incredible details of 1 to 5 nm in size can be detected.
