Contributory factors to the racial conflict in sri lanka should be sorted out firstly, before any embarkation on developmental ventures
Main theme of any talks should be to ensure basic, fundamental and equal rights: Would ever the main theme of any talks for a lasting political solution be to ensure that the Tamils live with their basic, fundamental and equal rights just like any Buddhist Singhalese, with inbuilt safeguard enshrined in the Constitution?
Numerical strength of the Singhalese and their representatives: Just like the numerical strength of the majoritarian Singhalese community that could defeat any proposals of the Tamil community at any referendum, numerical strength of the Singhalese representatives in the legislative assembly, or a national government or any adhoc All Party Representatives Advisory Committee could defeat any proposals submitted by the Tamil representatives on behalf of the Tamil community.

Why is it that, a concerted effert is beening made to depict the Sinhala / Tamil New Year as Sinhala / Hindu New Year? The word Tamil is taboo in certain quarters I suppose. I have seen some newspappers and websites made references as the Sinhala / Hindu New Year.

I understand that different Hindu sects follow different days as their New Year. But the New Year for both the Tamils and Sinhala is the same. It is another portent evidence that both the communities coexisted since the early times!

Colombo, March 28 (AP): Sri Lanka`s Government said it was ready to hold peace talks anytime with the Tamil Tigers, following two days of dramatic attacks by the rebels, including their first airstrike and a suicide bombing outside a military camp.

The attacks Monday and Tuesday killed 11 people and wounded 36.

``We must try to bring a comprehensive and substantial peace,`` Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogolagama told reporters Tuesday. ``Our government believes that we need to talk, we need to explore all avenues,`` he said, adding that if the rebels agreed to negotiation, ``we can have it tomorrow.``

Galle, Jan. 29 (PTI): Foreign aid donors today warned Sri Lanka against a military solution to the island`s drawn out ethnic conflict and said the government must enter into a power-sharing deal with Tamil Tigers.
The United States, Japan and the World Bank came out strongly against any military action to resolve the conflict which has already claimed over 60,000 lives. `We remain unwavering in our conviction that there can be no military solution to this terrible conflict,` US Ambassador Robert Blake said at the opening of a two-day meeting here to review foreign aid to the island.

At the beginning the word `Race`, in English, was used to distinguish between groups of peoples having `similar` physical features: Negros, Saracens, Malabars, Red-Indians, Chinese etc.

This classification is found to be completely erroneous if one looks at the genetic composition of individuals. Your genetic composition can be closer to that of a red-Indian than to that of your own brother!

One can say roughly that the physical features of a person is determined by the places in which his ancestors/he lived/lives, food his ancestors/he ate/eats etc. It is the environment which models the man.
