Is this called Flooding ? Wednesday, 19 August 2009 - 12:08 AM SL Time

Earlier Tamils and NGOs did not want better camps to be built. They were complaining about the possible Camp life for the long haul.

Now, Temporary huts got water during the Monsoon storms and outside had water gathered.

Now, they are complaining again.

Will Tamils ever stop complaining and live in harmony with others in Sri Lanka.

I don`t think so.

BetleGeuse, A Super Giant Star is so Close To Explode Friday, 14 August 2009 - 1:10 AM SL Time

Size of our Sun in relation to everything else in our solar system.

Trying to fathom just how large our star is can be rather difficult to impart to average folks. After all it`s a yellow dwarf with a spectral classification of G2 V and fairly common it`s one of perhaps more than 100 million G2 stars in our galaxy. However, it alone accounts for 99.9% of the mass of our solar system. This includes all the planets, satellites (moons), asteroids, meteoroids, comets and a plethora of dust and anything else that`s out there. Another point that makes it far from ordinary, common or typical... It is the only known star that supports life

M.I.A. and the bogey of genocide in Sri Lanka - By Dr. Muttukrishna Sarvananthan Wednesday, 4 March 2009 - 1:30 AM SL Time

I listened to the interview of Tavis Smiley of the Public Service Broadcasting (PBS) with Mathangi (aka Maya) Arulpragasam a hip-hop artist (stage name M.I.A.- Missing in Action) who has been nominated for Grammy and Oscar Awards for 2009.

Maya was born in Sri Lanka, so she claims (though I cannot confirm this fact but give her the benefit of the doubt) but lived most part of her life first in India and then in the UK and currently a British citizen, to the best of my knowledge. I don`t think she has visited Sri Lanka ever since her family migrated to India in the early 1980s (and later to the UK), to the best of my knowledge.

Blow by blow
One of our most ancient traditional martial arts, angan pora, that was used in many a battle against the Portuguese and Dutch and then went underground when the British prohibited it, is seeing a new revival in an angan maduwa in Kaduwela.
Kumudini Hettiarachchi reports, Pix by Sanka Vidanagama

What did Kataragama Mahasen of the Yaksha tribe, as legend would have it, who strode this land 25,000 years ago and showed off his prowess during a sura-aura battle, Ravana`s grandfather Pulathisi, Kuveni, Acharya Pandula, Parakrama Bahu I, Dutugemunu and the Dasa Maha Yodayas, Vijaya Bahu I, Seethawaka Rajasinghe, Leuke Disawa, Meegasteene Adikaram and Wickremasinghe Mudliyar have in common?

KHAJURAHO - Temple of Love - For Makaso and Tiggy Saturday, 17 January 2009 - 6:27 AM SL Time

Khajuraho invokes the mind, Fires the
imagination. Hundreds of miles from civilization, deep
in the hinterlands of central India where the tiger still
has its own domain and where the depths of the forests
hold their own secrets are a small clearing. Here: a village,
modest by any standards a tank, ambitiously called a
lake groups of ancient temples, some in ruins.
For most people, Khajuraho continues to remain an
enigma, a quest in the arena of world art.

UNDP involved in bogus project sites to funnel money into terrorists in Sri Lanka Sunday, 23 November 2008 - 5:06 AM SL Time

The Sri Lankan government claimed today they found evidence to suggest that the International Organisations like UNDP are involved in fraudulent development scheme in the terrorist held territories to fund the terrorist outfit.

Recently Sri Lankan Troops came across this UNDP project site that supposed to have initiated for development of Wanni civilians at Kiranchchi, but it is only a primitive cattle shed, a name sake project office where the actual funds may have been used by the LTTE for its own purposes. `Can such construction projects bring development to any community in the world?` Security forces have come across many similar projects that may have hoodwinked its main donors, funding a terrorist outfit. Concerns arise about the mode of operandi of such organisations as authorities responsible are bond to justify themselves.

Rare, prehistoric-age reptile found nesting in New Zealand - Will they speak Tamil. Monday, 3 November 2008 - 1:54 AM SL Time

WELLINGTON, New Zealand - Officials say a rare reptile with lineage dating back to the dinosaur age has been found nesting on the New Zealand mainland for the first time in about 200 years.

Four leathery, white eggs from an indigenous tuatara were found by staff at the Karori Wildlife Sanctuary in Wellington, during routine maintenance work Friday.

Conservation manager Rouen Empson says the nest proves that the animals are breeding and suggests there may be more.

Empson says baby tuatara could be born any time between now and March.

Protruded Buttocks - Inherited for saving energy. Sunday, 2 November 2008 - 12:11 AM SL Time

Nice buttocks (bottom, posterior or whatever your preference in terminology may be) are usually an integral part of the whole that makes a body attractive, and in most cases, desirable. It appears that the protuberant buttocks are the one desired more than any of the other shapes.

Steatopygia is a condition that is caused by an accumulation of fat around the Buttocks, which, is said to be a genetic characteristic originating with the Khoisan tribals of the sub-Saharan regions of Africa. The reason for the accumulation of the fat would most probably have to do with the storage of energy for these hunter-gatherer tribes to survive during the extended periods that they had to endure without a regular source of food. Interestingly, we are told that a study of their Y-chromosomes reveal that they belong to the oldest human lineage which could well have diverged from the evolutionary tree of over 100,000 years ago. This characteristic has now been genetically transferred to other tribes such as the Bantu, the Bushmen of the Kalahari, the Pygmies of Central Africa and possibly others. However, it must be very clear to those who admire nice asses, that the genes have spread all over and now innumerable descendents of Africans all over the world have been blessed or cursed (depending on how extreme the condition is) with the asses they have that reflect those steatopygic origins.
