Tamil Nadu state assembly opposition leader and the Southern Indian state`s former Chief Minister accused the State`s current Chief Minister Muthuvel Karunanidhi of actively supporting the LTTE terrorists and not doing anything for the poor Tamil civilians who are being used as a human shield by the Tigers to safeguard themselves.
``Reports reveal that the LTTE is using the innocent civilians, living in that areas, as human shields by preventing the Tamils from leaving to safer places. This horrible practice of using civilians as human shield must be stopped forthwith,`` she said.

Velupillai Prabhakaran Will Die Soon: Hindu Astrologer Predicts

A well respected Hindu astrologer from Karnataka, India, Mr. A. K. P. Theventhra Rajh predicts that between November 8 and 15, 2008 is a very critical period for Velupillai Prabhakaran, the leader of the Tamil Tigers, the terrorist group fighting to carve out a separate state for the Tamil minority in Sri Lanka. Speaking to some local media people, Mr. Theventhra Rajh has reportedly told that Prabhakaran is seriously ill due to stress caused by the constant fear for his life. Prabhakaran, who is also a chronic diabetic, requires regular insulin shots, which has been disrupted owing to constant change of hideout due to aerial bombing by the SL forces.

Upstate NY man gets time served for smuggling

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - A Sri Lankan man living in upstate New York has been sentenced to time served, about seven months, for smuggling people from Canada into the United States by boat.
Mohanraj Selvarajah will likely face deportation following Monday`s sentencing in federal court in Buffalo.
According to court papers, the 48-year-old Lockport resident told investigators he was given $5,000 to buy a boat in September 2007 and was told he would be paid more to smuggle three people into the United States.

WELIOYA: A TERRIBLE SEA ordeal that occurred in the mid seas off PULIPANCHIKAL between MULLAITTIVU and TRINCOMALEE sea patch when a group of Tamil civilians on the flee from LTTE controlled areas has cost the life of a coxswain after several Tiger boats surrounded fleeing civilians Tuesday (24) late night and assaulted the coxswain, says the wife of the victim.
Unable to put up with Tiger atrocities any longer, twelve men, women and their children have set off from CHUNDIKULAM in KILINOCHCHI area riding the high waves on a boat in order to flee from LTTE controlled areas. But their sea journey was unexpectedly interrupted halfway by a few LTTE boats who surrounded their boat.

As his name suggests, the voice of W.D. Amaradeva is immortal, there is no other musician or vocalist has influenced contemporary Sri Lankan music as maestro W.D. Amaradeva who celebrates his 80th birthday today (05th).
His contribution to the music scene in Sri Lanka which has spanned over five decades is immeasurable.
Maestro Amaradeva has an indigenous and truly Sri Lankan voice which has given life to folk songs, semi classical and classical songs, and theater and film songs.
