Professor of what?
Sunday, 8 November 2009 - 1:07 AM SL Time
|
The guy was a minor operative of the Sri Lankan Intelligence, between 1984 - 1994. He was resourceful enough to use the material he collected during his work, and publish books on the Tamil militants. These are material collected by his colleagues, risking their lives. When the going got tough in Sri Lanka, he somehow ended up through a circuitous route, via USA and Scotland, in Australia. In 2001, the 9/11 incident gave him a god given opportunity to rise to the mainstream media. He became the toast of international media for a while, making bombastic claims and predictions. All the while, he was also subtly promoting his personal anti Tamil agenda, under the cover of academic professionalism, making claimns of LTTE links to every terrorist organisation in the world. But it is difficult to survive in the competetive world of Australian academia without having the real substance in you. He was found out and disgraced and went underground, in 2003. The world forgot about him. And with the destruction of the LTTE, he was fast losing his chance to rise to prominence again. The indomitable Gunaratne does not take things lying down. He has started his rise to prominence again, by smearing Tamil refugees with Tiger balm. By doing this, he is killing two birds - coming into world prominence and also giving vent to his anti Tamil bias. Only this time, he has added the title of Professor to his name. And the University: Nanyang.

Analyse this
by Gary Hughes [Melbourne Age/ July 20 2003]
Whenever a comment has been needed about al-Qaeda or terrorism, Rohan Gunaratna has been there to supply it. Who is he? Rohan Gunaratna describes as a spiritually defining moment the day in March 2001 when he learned that the Taliban regime in Kabul had ordered the demolition of the ancient, giant statues of Buddha at Bamiyan in Afghanistan.
But it was the destruction six months later of an icon of the modern world - New York`s World Trade Towers - that changed his life in a more practical way, launching a stellar new career as a global authority on international terrorism. Gunaratna was the right person in the right place at the right time. The world`s media outlets were looking for experts to interpret how and why the world had changed and the Sri Lanka-born academic was great `talent`, providing dire warnings about the threat of Osama bin Laden`s shadowy al-Qaeda network. No one seemed to worry that, until the September 11 attacks, Gunaratna`s acknowledged expertise had been largely confined to the activities of Sri Lanka`s Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, or the Tamil Tigers.

In defence of Ponseka

He is a career soldier. He was injured critically in a suicide bomb attack.
Then he devised a plan that worked against LTTE. His strategy overcame an enemy that others had not been able to defeat for 30 years. Until the fall of Killinochchi there weren`t any reports of widespread civilian deaths.
Who ordered the hospitals to be bombed? Who ordered the civilian massacres? Who ordered the killing of surrendered combatants? And who ordered the internment of the civilians in Nazi camps?

However, the General panicked, as he has a baggage of war crimes to his credit and has asked the GOSL to send in two teams of lawyers. Death certificates reveal link with choice of career
By Andy McSmith

Work can be very bad for your health if you are in the wrong job. If you are a carpenter, fitter, electrician, plumber or gas fitter, you run an above average risk of dying from an asbestos-related disease.
If you are coal miner, there an abnormally high chance that you will die of pneumoconiosis, whereas if you are mining for any mineral other than coal, or working in a quarry, the risk is that silicosis will kill you.

Sarathsinhala Ponsekera for President

Dias couldn`t do it. Vaas couldn`t either. Murali could only hope... and Aravinda de Silva? Forget about it! Bandula Warnapura had to give up the Fernando in his name!
Yes, since independence, no body has been president, prime minister or cricket captain of Sri Lanka without a Buddhist sounding surname!
Think of the Senanayakes, Bandaranayakes, Rajapakses, Wickremasinghes, Wickremanayakes, Premadasas, Wijetungas, Wijetungas, Kumaranatunges.

Palama Yata

Moda mulane Dosthar Mahida Rajapasse is on a spate of opening new bridges and overhead bridges these days.
Many of these were started during Chandrika`s period, with foreign aid. But Modapakse claims credit for himself, as usual.
The economy is going down the pallam. And the only development the government is doing is building palams. Compare this with Mahaweli scheme or Victoria dam or Preme`s Gam Udawa. This man was hoodwinking the public with war hysteria. How long can he continue?
