[Aussie boy!! Maybe you are a compassionate sinhalese gentlemen. Unfortunately all my sinhala friends especially in Canberra belong to SPUR. ] I know some members of SPUR, and i remember when SPUR was formed... I think people just wanted a way to help the injuried soliders, their families and other civilans that were affected by the war... [Your view about a terrorist outfit is well taken. But, sadly that is not a view seen as fact from a Tamil perspective. History shows us that both communities did live in harmony in the past. So why suddenly this situation the last 30 yrs?...why the ethnic riots? ] I admit that the ethnic riots should not have taken place and it was caused by bad government decisions, which i totally disagree with! But right now, we are dealing with terrorism, and it doesn`t matter what excuses exist, Sri Lanka should not be divide into 2 seperate states and terrorists should not be allowed to rule by the gun and their terror tactics! [I also am not in total agreement about the EAST?...I am not sure they have been liberated!!...To me a viable political solution acceptable to all communities is Liberation. I also believe that the Sinhala populace in the south have to be liberated from those who have only nationalistic views and nothing else...not to mention corruption and disappearances.] Ok, with the east... already the east is prospering from it`s liberation! I understand that there might be some die-hard LTTErs around or that new LTTE fighters maybe sent to the east to cause some damage, but without LTTE controlled land and bases, the east is liberated and people can travel freely, etc. and the east will grow... already there is talk of cricket and other productive development being planned right across the liberated areas! No doubt that these sorts of developments will help to integregate the east with the rest of SL... and i`m sure the LTTE will try and disrupt things here and there, but they will be taken care of when it arises... but right now, do you not see that the eastern people are much better off? Regarding a political solution, i agree that something needs to be done, but right now, we need to disarm this terrorist organisation, and put some tamil representatives into parliament! They should be voted in by the tamil people (freely) and should represent the tamil people democratically! You can`t just wield your guns around and claim to be the `sole representatives` and then kill anyone else who disagrees with you! |
