Sri Lanka ex-Treasury chief ordered to apologize to court
Oct 08, 2008 (LBO) Sri Lanka`s former Treasury Secretary P B Jayasundera was ordered to apologize to Supreme Court for having remained in public office after a judgment and assure that he would not remain in government, lawyers said.
Though Jayasundera resigned shortly after the original court order which reversed a land transfer and a tax holiday given to the bunkering firm Lanka Marine Services when it was sold to John Keells Holdings, his resignation was not immediately accepted.

The resignation was later accepted, following a second court order on a motion filed by the original petitioner, leftist politician Vasudeva Nanayakkara.

Chief Justice Sarath Silva then ordered Jayasundera to be present in court amidst reports that he was working as an advisor to the president.

On Wednesday Jayasundera was told to apologize to court for remaining in office after the court order and to also submit an affidavit assuring Supreme Court that he was severing all ties with public service, lawyers said.
