[P.B. at TT meeting

Twenty-four hours after the Supreme Court issued notice on former Treasury Secretary P.B. Jayasundera to appear in court on October 8 to inform of the state offices held by him, Jayasundera was present yesterday at a high powered meeting at Temple Trees presided by President Mahinda Rajapakse.

The government export industry met at Temple Trees yesterday to discuss issues related to the Sri Lankan export sector, especially with the renewal of the GSP+ facility extended to the country by the European Union.

Several ministers and officials including International Trade Minister G.L. Pieris and representatives of the garment industry attended the meeting.

A Supreme Court Bench comprising Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva, Justices Shiranee Tilakawardane and N.G. Amaratunga was on Monday critical of the law enforcing authorities for their failure to take legal steps against Jayasundera in terms of the LMSL judgment.

The Court had said Jayasundara should not only have been suspended but also charged under criminal law.

The Supreme Court has summoned Jayasundera to appear on October 8 in person.

It is learnt he will resign from all posts he holds including Chairman, SriLankan Airlines before appearing in court.

Meanwhile, Deputy Finance Minister Ranjith Siyamabalapitiya told The Morning Leader, he does not know what posts Jayasundera holds.]
