No comments on court rulings - President Friday, 05 September 2008 14:16 The executive, the judiciary and the legislature should act independently without any confrontation, President Mahinda Rajapaksa said. The President was speaking at the swearing in at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday (September 04th) of the chief ministers, ministers and councilors of the UPFA newly elected to the North Central and Sabaragamuwa Provincial Councils. The president also said that he respected decisions of the judiciary, adding that he would not comment on them. Referring to the arrest of a Buddhist monk on the charge of sound pollution, President Rajapaksa said he would not intervene despite receiving many inquiries as to why he did not do so. At a time when a war is being waged to unite the country, the party should have no internal disputes and all should work in a more vigorous and diligent manner, the President said. Congratulating the UPFA members for winning the two provincial council polls, he added that the victory has proved the clear mandate of the voters. -Lanka Dissent] |
