[Yes that is not because they were racists, the scholerly monks did not know of the language, let alone they did English language. You must remember that what the Buddha taught was understood by many languages as if its their own language but thats at that time. Buddhsim has no recognition to any barriers including language. Buddha s teaching defies any language medium. Budhsim is enlightenet, or heart language it is of silence. Not Noise. Language is of noise, it is a sign of emptiness. Silence is of saturation, .] I don t think Buddha preached in Sinhala?.. nor did mahinda thero. I don t know abt you, but almost all the prayers I know are in Paali. But still.. the majority in sri lanka follow Buddhism. So, I really doubt it has anything to do with language. practically speaking, in most cases,it has a lot to do with `who got there first` , and the requirement of the person. Prabakaran doesn t need to become a monk , he needs to become a human being! |
