[One dark night, the dominance of Sinhalayas over Tamils will end!]
The following was submitted for the Eelam Fiction Prize Essay Contest, 2008.

It was a dark and stormy night. The heavy ether seemed a living, breathing being, sighing and shifting every few seconds. The lazy coconut palms swayed slowly with each gentle caress of the breeze. The still of the dark night was gradually pierced by a low, distant hum. Little by little the disquieting sound grew, first a low pitched hum, ever increasing, until it became a mildly deafening screech, suspiciously like an old Morris Minor missing on one cylinder trying to climb the Kadugannawa pass. Then, out of the east, from o`er the hissing, dancing sea, a dark shadow passed overhead. Even the myopic beggar on the corner with the glass eye and obvious squint could see the maniacally grinning faces hanging out of the window of the wondrous attack aircraft of the TAF. A device the size of two large unhusked coconuts fell away from the flying machine, gracefully arcing its way towards the sprawling 400 acre military base. A resounding thud and a blinding explosion, much like the mating dance of three dozen fireflies accompanied by a quartet of crickets, rent the night air. And that is how, on one dark night, the dominance of the Sinhalayas over the Tamils ended.

The End
