Namal Perera, Course Coordinator at the Sri Lanka Press Institute, was the victim of the latest attack. A gang in a white van and a motorcycle ambushed his car, between Narahenpita and Kirulapone Junctions, around 6.15 pm today (June 30th). The assailants had tried to drag him out of the vehicle, but failed. Then, they had assaulted him with clubs. A friend who was accompanying Mr. Perera was unharmed. He was rushed to the nearby Apollo Hospital at Narahenpita, SLPI sources said. The assault came barely days after the appointment of a five-member ministerial committee to investigate harassment of the media. |
