Berty, I was in UK well before 1983 riots (though I did come for a holiday to SL in 1982).
However I had family and friends there, and I am aware of the atrocities. An uncle of mine had his Factory and home looted by some of his own workers. A month later, he saw one of the workers/looters, begging for food on the street. `My uncle told him, `Son, had you and your friends not looted my factory, and home, you would still have a job, and not be begging in the streets`. He replied, `Sorry Sir, my mind was not right, we are going to all pay a lot in the future for our ignorance`. My uncle took him home, and fed him. I am also aware of some real kindness that also happened among normal people, which is why I also have some hope. Its really sad berty, because I believe there are hope, and deep down.. I am sure that people are willing to work towards a settlement, but it seems each side is waiting for the other to put their foot first. |
