I think VP has to blame himself for the NE demerger.
NE merger was the only tangible achievement to show for all the tears and destruction.This too was achieved with Indian help. A smarter politician would have consolidated this and moved on, embracing the Easterners too.
Karuna revolt was not a one man revolt and not just a GOSL plot. The fissures were there already. Due to it`s military like organisation, LTTE was and is unable to handle dissent in a productive way.
20 years after the NE merger, after untold loss and suffering, we have lost the east. That`s all that has been achieved. We are no closer to Eelam than we were in 1987.And we have antagonised the IC and India by our arrogant and stupid actions.
