[My contention was the JVP was a beneficiary of the 1982 Referendum rather than a victim. Furthermore, if JR did not change the Constitution we would not have seen any JVP Member of Parliament today. ] It is difficult to say, but if JRJ conducted the 1983 general elections under the new representative system JVP could have got one or two seats, and that would have prevented them taking arms for the second time. So I cannot really say JVP was a beneficiary of the 82 referendum. More a victim because they lost their voice almost. New-JVP (post 94) was definitely a beneficiary of 78 constitution. . |
