Prime Minister is any way a puppet, so was Mahinda under CBK. Therefore it does not matter who they choose from the party, unless they could find some body other than a Sinhalese. Unfortunately there is no body of Kidrigamar`s caliber(he was good to be the President had not been assassinated))in SLFP so why not reach out side the party and invite Anandasangaree?
