AnuD,
You are quite right about the Buddhism and its adaptation to the local cultures. But the very fundermental teachings of Buddhism is based on equality among mankind(unlike Hinduism where it advocate `Warna`).This was one of the reasons why young flame of Buddhism was carried to far corners of the world at the time of emperor Asoka. Look at the situation now in Sri lanka, how can we respect those prelates of buddhist chapters if they advocate cast system ? This malaise practice should be stopped forever. If there is a need for a buddhist council then all the head of states of buddhist countries should convene one.
