`DNA report surfaces misinformation campaign`- Colombo
The Molecular Medicine Unit of the University of Kelaniya, forwarding its finalized DNA analysis report into a human body part found off Pungkudutheevu, has forwarded its report to the Kayts Magistrate.

According to the DNA analysis, the human remains found are not of either Rev. Jim Brown or his aide Mr. Vincent Vimalathas who is also said to have disappeared along with Rev. Brown. Subsequently, this revelation has surfaced worries of an existing coalition among anti- government political elements and the separatist terrorist outfit.

The abduction and assassination of the two local Red Cross volunteers on 01st June, the misinformation campaigns by the extremist political elements, the disappearances and the alleged abductions are timely string lined, to tarnish the GoSL image thus aimed at capitalizing in a falsely perceived unstable political atmosphere.

According to a government official, the recent revelation has well pronounced the existing threat of a coalition between the anti-productive political segments and the LTTE, who are invariably targeting the government efforts in rebuilding the `War Torne` north and east areas.

Further to its media release on the investigations into the discovery of a part of a human body found off Pungkudutheevu, which some interested parties claimed to be that of Rev. Father Thiruchelvam Nihal Jim Brown, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to clarify the following :

Following a Post Mortem Examination into the human remains found in Pungkudutheevu on 14 March 2007, conducted in pursuance of a magisterial order by a senior Professor in Forensic Medicine of the University of Colombo, the Molecular Medicine Unit of the University of Kelaniya conducted DNA analysis in this regard and has forwarded its report to the Magistrate Kayts.

According to the DNA analysis, the human remains found are not of either Rev. Jim Brown or his aide Mr. Vincent Vimalathas who is also said to have disappeared along with Rev. Brown.

Therefore it is evident that certain recent media reports, which claimed the body as belonging to Rev. Brown, were portrayed to deceive the general audience and deliberately tarnish the image of the GoSL.

The Criminal Investigation Department is continuing with its investigation into the disappearance of Rev. Brown. His disappearance is one of the cases scheduled to be investigated into by the Commission of Inquiry appointed to investigate and inquire into alleged serious violations of Human Rights.
