Cham[How on earth anyone can give answer for that.Even world`s strongest country can`t give exact time scale for Al qieda and Iraq. ]
cham
there is number of points need to be cleared before answering to your Q.

1)the USA did not fight with IRAQ for the last 30 years whereas the ltte has been fighting with the govt for the last 30 years.

2) the USA is not fighting a war in it`s own territory with it`s own citizens whereas in lankla fights a war with it`s own citizens in it`s own territory.

3)the USA is a sole supper power of the world can afford such a prolong war in foreign territory where as srilnaka cannot afford a single war without foreign AID as it`s struggle to correct the socio economic problems.

4)the root cause for the conflict and war in srilanka is a political policy blunders on ethnic lines not an religious or a race one.

now lets move on to your Q,
your govt wants peace and i assume that your govt is well aware of the points i made above and chooses ` war for peace` strategy.

now the govt should know the limit, because it was an ongoing war! and the past govts also choose that strategy and failed miserably.
so how many times , the govt wants to continue with `war for peace` strategy at the expense of others?

it is time the govt plan a *CLEAR CUT* strategy if it chooses *war for peace* strategy.

so ,one has the right to question, how long will the war last! if not accept the defeat before the govt jump into fire from the frying pan.
