Kula,

Thanks for pointing out. I stand corrected.

Granthe was the official WRITTEN language (only scripts) during the later phase of the Kandyan period. At least that was what our (Sinhala) historians say. I am not sure whether they used Granthe characters to write Sinhala, Tamil or Malayalam or even a mix. I have not checked this. Good. Another area to explore.

Alternatively it could have been Tamil scripts that was used. (not Granthe) The so called `historians` might have said it was `Granthe` to imply a neutrality. I do not believe these people any more. Most of these historians are a set of liars who have lied shamelessly. (For instance I have checked several history books about Lankatilake Vihare. Not a single one mentions about this Tamil/Granthe inscription.)

But at least the script in this inscription cannot be Tamil because of the prominent `ja`.
