You are right about Malaysia. The reality is that Tamils, Muslims and Sinhalese too go there in seack of employment. How is that Malaysia could have a peaceful society and reach prosperity whereas in Sri Lanka we are tearing apart. Chinese had resentment but they were given a whole province, Singapore, to develop their culture and language. In Sri Lanka minorities are denied even `District Councils` in 1965. Again LTTE drove M and S away from Jaffna that too at short notice, which tells much of LTTE`s barbarism. Muslims and Sinhalese did own lands in Jaffna and this `thesavalamai` is blown out out of proportions. I look at Sinhala Only as the root cause of all the problems. The Sinhala-Buddhist clergy is given too much political power as the Chritianity enjoyed in 16th - 18th century Europe. Only Sri Lanka is lacking behind in finding a solution to the problem and plunged in economic stagnation. Minorities tried peaceful methods for 30 years, Sinhala polity was prevented from finding a solution by Sinhala-Buddhist monks. Like Israel Sri Lanka also does not abide by agreements. That`s why both countries supported by US are having immense problems of bombing and destrution. |
