Malays in Malaysia are `Bhumi puthras` and they only can own land and calim for lot of other privileges, but not the minorities, though they have calimed to be the driving force behind Malaysia`s economic development. There is no favoured group as `Bhumi puthras` in Sri Lanka, anybody can own land and claim for other benefits, except in Jaffna where Thesawalame customary law prevents non-taimls to own land there. One cannot help the fact that Sinhalese are the majority, because there are the most abundant in this country and therefore it is not unfair to identify Sri Lanka as the country of the Sinhalese! That has never expelled minorities from anywhere. It was VP who did ethnic clensing in the north by forcibly driving out Sinhalese and Muslims. You have to remember that half the Tamils in Sri Lanka are living happily among the Sinhalese in the south and Tamils still outnumber in the east. Please get your meaning for `ethnic cleansing ` right! |
