Estate Tamils are NOT immigrants. They were born at least three generations back. Those `Indians` brought over to Singapore and Malaysia just like those in the upcountry in Si Lanka are considered as indegenous. In Singapore those Tamils make up of less than 6% of the population yet Tamil is an Official Language and is implemented by the Govt. of Sigapore.
In Sri Lanka Tamil soeaking population is nearly 25% and Tamil was enacted as an Official Language followng Indo-Lanka Accord, but, it remains onkly in the statute book because none of the racist Sri Lankan Governments wanted to implement it though it is 18 years old. The reason given now is that there are not enough Tamil translators or type writters.
