Though I do not agree with them on many issues, still I have some soft corner for JHU. It is a different question most of us cannot agree with them, but they know where they want to go and compared to many other parties do that in a relatively honest manner.
If TNA can speak only about Tamils, SLMC can speak only about Muslims, there is nothing at all JHU speaking only about Sinhalese Buddhists. However, had they done that without getting the religion to the political stage and eventually insulting the religion and the robes, they would have received much respect from the society.
JVP, on the other hand are now so desperate to jump on anything, because they have found their voter bases are dwindling and SLFP (not UNP) had eaten into their vote banks. Support given to plantation workers was only one of their cheap ways to gain a bit more support.
