[I read your comment and thought that maybe the Tamils do not like him very much, as they think he is influenced by some outside force, and not by his love towards Tamil people or democratic norms]
He is not connected through faith to the current Tamils in Sri Lanka. He also lacks belief that he can lead Tamils out of this mess.
