Thalai,

Machan only time will tell. It is true that VP went for confrontation, but both of us know what the result was . Mavilaru was recaptured by the SLA.

I think the LTTE actually miscalculated their military strength and supported MR hoping that MR will opt for war. That was the right call but the wrong estimate. MR actually got the LTTE to the pouint they are now.

Machan look at the areas they lost. East used to be the main source of men and was the place the LTTE went for recruitment. The fall of east really affected the recruitment drive. I am sure you are aware that the LTTE has started recruiting aged civilians for their minor work including setting up land mines.

I also feel Thalai, VP expected the IC backing or Indian backing if and when the war gets out of hand or if and when the Govt gets upper hand. Both did not happen. As you know, despite Tamilnadu antics, India extended the ban on the LTTE. India pursuaded Karunanidhi and MPs to withdraw resignations. Of course they made GOSL promise some solution in a month but that months is gone long ago!

this is why i think VP over estimated his capabilities. But as i said time will tell if the LTTE can turn the tide in his favour.

As always, I dont get upbeat by SLA military successes (and there were many) nor do I get crest fallen by their set backs. There has to be a Political solution which addresses to Fundamental issues if we are to see permanent peace.
