Still IMF say SL economy will grow by 5,8%

[The IMF in its late October assessment on Sri Lanka projected the economy to grow by only 5.8% in 2009.

The World Bank chief Robert B. Zoellick last week downgraded growth prospects for developing countries to 4.5% in 2009 in comparison to earlier projection of 6.4%.

In tandem with this the World Bank s Lankan office is also in the process of revising country forecasts.

World Bank Country Director Naoko Ishii said that the multilateral donor agency is currently revising its estimates for economic growth in 2009 to factor in the sharp change in the global economic environment that has taken place in the past couple of months. The revised estimates will be published in the next Global Economic Prospects publication, due to be released in early December.
