It does not mean I agree with this stupid 13th...im only pointing it out what was there already....

thanks to thivya...

The Sri Lankan Tamils' national anthem is not the exact translation of the Sinhala version. The Sri Lankan Tamils have their own Tamil version but the tune is the same. They have included the word Elam in the Tamil version of Sri Lankan National anthem to refer the Tamil homeland. The Tamils do not hate the Island of Sri Lanka and they only hate the racist politics of the Sinhala majority. The Tamils have no qualm about singing the National anthem in TAMIL. That is the reason the TNA played the National Anthem at the swearing-in ceremony of its members elected to the Vavuniya Urban Council.

Tigress,

I have my own version of the National Anthem. It goes like, 'Amba damba Naarang Kesel Dhel, Panakakame, Panakaka laba min'.

The translation is like: 'Have Mangoes, Lemons, Bananas and Bread fruit as much as you like while vacationing in Sri Lanka'.

We sing this after a few drinks when I meet up with my friends while in Colombo.

I think this should be the Anthem of every Sinhalese expatriate because it is very meaningful.

Tiggy

Can you give an exact Sinhala (or English) translation of the Tamil Version of the Anthem?

Any recording of the Tamil version? I'd love to hear it.

Namo Namo ThaayE.nam Sri Lanka,
Namo Namo Namo Namo ThaayE!

Baka,

The above I think is translated as 'We worship at the feet of the Lions halleluiah'.

Someone correct me if I am wrong.

If a minority race claiming exclusive rights to 1/3 of the Island is not a problem then I know what to tell you. The whole Island belongs to Tamils too.

I think the word 'Namo' is of Sanskrit origin- wonder how it crept into a Tamil anthem- of all things!

Maybe it's the other way round- Sanskrit borrowed it from Tamil-as is often the case according to certain pundits here?

Baka,

Well, we need Thivya here ASAP to educate us on this. On the other hand this sounds like a chanting of a 'Washee Gurukama'.
