DMK to Centre: Move resolution against Sri Lanka in UNHRC

Besides urging the Indian government to move a resolution in the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) seeking a credible international inquiry into killing of Sri Lankan Tamils, war crimes and human rights violations in the last leg of the civil war, the DMK's general council meeting on Sunday wanted India to facilitate a referendum among the island nation s Tamils to find a permanent political solution.

A resolution adopted in the meeting said devolution of powers guaranteed under the 13th Amendment of the Sri Lankan Constitution remained only on paper.

'The Northern Province headed by C.V. Wigneswaran has been vested only with watered down powers. Land administration and home department, including police continue to be in the hands of the Sri Lankan government. The governor of the province and President Mahinda Rajapaksa can reject or accept any proposals of the provincial government,' the resolution pointed out.

As an interim relief, the DMK said, the Indian government should take steps to provide full political powers to the Tamils.

On the issue of alleged attacks on Indian fishermen by Sri Lankan navy, the party said the Centre and state governments should expedite steps for arranging the proposed meeting of fishermen associations from India and Sri Lanka in Chennai without any delay.

Paawam da Stinkies..!

Will the Indian Govt be forced to move the resolution against Stinkies for Impartial Independent Investigation thanks to TN Tamils ???

:-))

Toiletnadu rilawa...

do You read ingiris....

The Conservative led government appears to have realized that by the ill-advised posturing of their prime minister in Sri Lanka, they had hobbled one of the most important political platforms of their government immigration control - and they seem to be making overtures to the Sri Lankan government to come to a mutually agreeable solution. Since the British have now said that they will back a South African style truth and reconciliation process, the Sri Lankan government should take up the offer.

It is not difficult to see why the British are having second thoughts about an international war crimes inquiry against Sri Lanka. The UK Border Agency which processes applications for asylum from Sri Lankan applicants, has a Country of Origin Information Service which puts out periodic bulletins updating information for the use of their staff. The latest such bulletin put out in December last year is a 149 page document which has assessed among other things allegations that deported Sri Lankan Tamil asylum seekers were being arrested and tortured in Sri Lanka.

The first part of this report reproduces verbatim extracts from various reports filed by international NGOs like Human Rights Watch, Freedom from Torture and Tamils Against Genocide alleging with case histories and names, that Tamil deportees are being arrested and tortured in Sri Lanka. The final part of the document is a letter from the United Kingdom High Commission in Colombo addressed to the UK Border Agency stating in bland language that nothing of the sort alleged by the international NGOs is actually taking place in Sri Lanka! The UK High Commission in Colombo had investigated one by one the cases mentioned by HRW and other organizations and found that there was no truth whatsoever in the allegations they made.

This makes it plain that the allegations of widespread human rights abuses during the last phases of the war by the Sri Lankan armed forces, made by the same or similar international NGOs, will have the same level of veracity. The British conservative government seems to have realized that their immigration policy need not be hobbled for no valid reason which is why they have offered this olive branch to the Sri Lankan government so that Sri Lanka can bring in an indemnity law in the form of a South African style truth and reconciliation commission and they (the Brits) can continue to deport bogus asylum applicants back to Sri Lanka.

WHY your king ALLOWS, KEEPS AND PROTECTS DRUG DEALERS to kill future of the country's population (Specially School age children)?

Because of your king loves children? Because of he loves his country? Because he loves country's future?

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna today stated that several incidents had been reported recently regarding the detection of large quantities of heroin imported to the country and there have been political involvements in all of these cases.

Such political involvements were covered up and the responsible people were safeguarded through various interferences, JVP Propaganda Secretary MP Vijitha Herath said. In the end the heroin rackets and culture of murder moved forward while the politicians, politician s secretaries, ministerial secretaries were set free, he charged.

Two container loads of ethanol worth Rs 40 million were seized by customs in March and it was revealed that politicians were also behind that incident. However, the government has still not taken action regarding the illegal import and has failed to punish those responsible, he said.

On August 30, the largest haul of heroin detected in the whole of South Asia was seized in Sri Lanka when authorities discovered 261 kilograms of heroin, he said, adding that the Coordinating Secretary of the PM was clearly behind the largest heroin import and he had issued a letter on behalf of the Prime Minister seeking duty waiver on the container concealing the heroin.

Therefore the Premier cannot save himself by blaming the whole thing on his coordinating secretary as such a letter cannot be written as one pleases, Herath said.

The Prime Minister s coordinating secretary can issue letters as he sees fit, what is the point of having a Prime Minister? Is the country controlled by the secretaries of Prime Ministers and Ministers? No.

He stated that when the issue was taken up in Parliament the Prime Minister had responded like a baby who does not know anything.

Herath further said that the information provided by Sri Lanka Customs to the Parliament states that 261.292 kilograms of heroin was seized it was handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau along with the 3 suspects on the very same day.

However, he revealed that the information provided by the Police Department to the Parliament states that the heroin weighs only 131.148 kilograms.

That means exactly 130 kilograms of heroin have suddenly evaporated. This is now a common occurrence in our country, the JVP MP said.

He stated that the people of the country have a question whether the 10 kilograms of heroin found in Hikkaduwa yesterday was a portion of the 130kg which went missing.

This is what exactly what I said earlier.

You can fool ONLY MODAYAS. But you can not fool the world!

UVR

I am at work so dont have time to read leangthy comments. I was talking abt past Royal college not the present one. The principal only manages the school but its the founder who provided the funds. I am not saying that present Royal college is a missionary one. When Royal college first founded, did the reach Buddhism there? I am sure no, bcos the founder was British and almost all the students were British.

But as time went by especially after independence Royal college must have gone tru lot of changes like teaching Buddhism etc...

This is the wiki page of Royal college, read the history part. If the Royal college didnt have anything to do with the history, why would they even talk abt a church in the Royal college wiki page. This doesnt say that the school is linked to the church, but why even mention it here?

In 1835, Rev. Joseph Marsh started a private school at the back verandah of the church called the Hill Street Academy for twenty students from the upper class community situated at Hill Street, Pettah

The following year in 1836, Sir Robert Wilmot-Horton, the British Governor of Ceylon, based on the recommendations of the Colebrooke Commission established the Colombo Academy,an English public school modeled on Eton College, with Marsh continuing as Head master on government pay.

Now they are talking abt the same head master here.
