Former minister Amir Ali of the All Ceylon Muslim Congress has been named to replace MP Kamala Ranatunga of the UPFA, according to UPFA sources.
Amir Ali was elected to the eastern provincial council on the UPFA at the recent polls.
However, the ACMC, or the National Congress of minister A.L.M. Athaulla in that case, are unlikely to get any ministerial positions in the council.
That is because two ministerial posts have to be given to the SLMC to obtain its support to form an administration there, said the UPFA sources.
In light of this situation, a decision has been taken to offer an MP position to Amir Ali, which has received the consent of ministers Risad Bathiudeen and Athaulla.
Mrs Ranatunga, who is not well, is to be given a diplomatic position, in order to pave the way for Amir Ali to enter parliament on the national list.
make more Muslims and Tamils to the Parliment.....what a shame !
