Sri Lanka major opposition United National Party (UNP) has initiated a disciplinary probe against the Matara district parliamentarian Buddhika Pathirana, party sources said.
Buddhika Pathirana is accused of criticizing the official website of the party run by the UNP media unit.
Pathirana is in a competition with the UNP media chief Mangala Samaraweera who is also a MP of Matara district.
UNP general secretary Tissa Attanayake has sent a letter yesterday (September 19) asking Pathirana to show cause regarding the charge before September 30.
Pathirana, a young TV journalist formerly, entered politics with the support of party leader Ranil Wickremasinghe and elected to the parliament overtaking party stalwart Sagala Rathnayaka. However, later he became an ardent criticizer of the party leadership.
