Around 12 dogs have been removed from the BMICH premises and taken to the dog pound to avoid possible disturbances during the ongoing 58th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference at the BMICH, CEO of the Blue Paw Trust Dr. Nalinika Obeysekere said.
The Blue Paw Trust, an organisation that promotes animal welfare claims the initial arrangement was for these dogs to be returned to the BMICH, once the conference concluded, as they have been occupying the premises for a while now.
However, the Daily Mirror learnt through an official at the S.W.R.D Bandaranaike Memorial Foundation that there was a rumour that the dogs were not going to be brought back. These dogs have been vaccinated, sterilised and well taken care of by the Blue Paw Trust. We manage the population of dogs in public areas and ensure they are not a form of disturbance to neighbouring people, explained Dr. Obeysekere.
According to Coordinator of the Dog Managed Zone at Blue Paw Trust Dr. D. Subasinghe, the Blue Paw Trust has signed an MoU with the BMICH to take care of the dogs at the premises. |

I DO NOT KNOW why people risk their lives to migrate to these white mans countries they should be educated with what type of treatment you receive when you land there they do not know they have to live as third class citizens / untouchables / refugees forever
A boat that left Negombo ten days ago, with 32 illegal migrants, bound to Australia, made an emergency landing at Yala, close to Tissahamaharama on Saturday night, after it had sprung a leak.Panicked area fishermen tipped off the police about the landing of an unknown boat with a large number of people. The Tissamaharama police immediately managed to round up 16 of them, including two children, from jungle terrain by about 9.00p.m. Eight others were picked up by yesterday morning.
The would be migrants had been made up of Sinhalese and Tamils.
The boat had been forced to turn back after it began to take in water, which had caused panic among its passengers, who had screamed out for help. The captain of the boat had sent a radio message, about their predicament, to the head of the smuggling operation and turned back the vessel towards Tissamaharama. The mastermind had even dispatched a bus and van to Tissamaharama to bring the 32 abortive migrants to Colombo and those too had been taken into custody by the police.
The Tissamaharama police were yesterday trying to trace the whereabouts of the balance eight. The police are also looking for the mastermind and the boat owner.

many sri lankans finding it extremely difficult to have a decent life in Sri Lanka at the present economical and social conditions.. they may prefer to be third class citizens in another country than living in Sri Lanka at present. that way they will at least fulfill their basic needs and some happiness in life. this is the reality..no one wants to talk about in public.. this was not the first incidence and it will not be the last ... |
