With the first round game in the inaugural SLPL Twenty20 over in Colombo, the scene shifts to the Pallekelle International Cricket Stadium where the next round of matches will be played.Pallekelle has all been dressed up, and the organizer will be hoping that cricket fan in the hill capital will throng the stadium unlike at the Premadsa Stadium where cricket fans were surprisingly missing.Sri Lankan cricket fans are a discerning lot.
They are aware that world stars in the game are not playing in this tournament and so they probably would be seeing the action unfolding on the TV sets at home.
All top stars
Compared to the SLPL, the Indian Premier League had all top stars in action and fans were jam packed at every venue where the matches were played.
But Sri Lanka Cricket is having its fling first in this style of tourney and it hoped it would be better next time round. Only one game will be played today at the Pallekelle Stadium with Wayamba United meeting Uva Next at 4 p.m. both teams won their first round games and this game should see an exciting contest.
Looking for runs
Sri Lanka s pace bowler Dilhara Fernando excelled in his last game with a devastating spell where he bagged 5 wickets. It was amazing and Uva will be looking for a repeat from Fernando to tame Wayamba United. Uva will be looking for runs from Shiv Chanderpaul, Thilana Kandamby, Sohaib Malik, Upul Tharanga and Abdur Rehman. The Pakistans will be the ones to watch, while Chanderpaul and Tharanga will be looking for big runs.
Their bowling is strong with Umar Gul, Andrew McdDonad, Sachitra Senanyake and Seekkuge Prasanna.
Gul is very economically and McDonald could get among the wickets with his good pace. For Wayamba Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardene is expected to show the way with his stylish and aggressive play and to support him will be Tamim Iqbal, Umar Akmal, Kaushalya Weeraratne, Malinda Siriwardena and Dinesh Chndimal.
God knock
Akmal had a good knock the other day and if he is allowed to unleash should be in the runs again.
Chandimal too should get back to his run making habit. As for the bowling they have Azhar Mahmood, the accurate Abdur Razzaq, Isuru udana and Weeraratne.
All in all it should be game evenly contested and the side fielding best should emerge victorious and give the Pallekelle leg of the tournament an exciting start. Pallekele, Thursday.
