The main opposition UNP called for action to be taken against those responsible for errors in the Advanced Level examination papers.
UNP MP, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam accused the government of being bent on ruining the future of the younger generation, stating that foul ups in the question papers is becoming a regular problem each year and the government has not made any attempt to rectify it.
Education, and subsequently the future of the younger generation, is being ruined by the government. It is not just those who are currently sitting for the A/L examination who suffering due to the Z-score blunder, the previous A/L students are suffering as well, he said, questioning, Why is this government fixed on ruining the future of these children? .
These children study hard and have great expectations of being professionals, such as engineers. But when they sit for the paper and are faced with these problems they are devastated and disheartened. This occurs year after year and yet the government has not made an attempt to solve these issues , he said.
Commenting on the Z-score miscalculation, the MP said the best solution would be to admit all students who have qualified to enter university and provide the universities with additional facilities to accommodate the large intake.
