Popular school principal stabbed to death

The Yakkalamulla police on Saturday arrested four suspects in connection with the killing of the principal of Minuwandeniya junior school, at Karagoda.
The principal, while on his way home, on seeing a group of persons attacking his two sons had attempted to save them. The attackers had than assaulted the principal and stabbed him.
The incident occurred around 7.30 pm on Saturday at Karagoda in Yakkalamulla.
The neighbours had rushed the popular principal and his injured sons to the Karapitiya hospital, but he had succumbed to his injuries, after admission to the hospital, the same night. The deceased has been identified as Anura Mahanama Edirisinghe (53).
Six others suspects, including the suspect who had stabbed the principal, were being sought by the police, but they had fled the area.
The suspects are said to be notorious characters in the area, who had resented the fact that the two sons of the principal were not associating with them.
