Sri Lanka Federation of University Teachers` Associations (FUTA) says that the university teachers are ready to support the Ministry of Higher Education in case of admitting more students to universities to grant relief to the students who faced an injustice due to Z-score crisis.

Education authorities of Sri Lanka have said that they will consider increasing the intake of students to universities to rectify the situation.

Minister of Higher Education S. B. Dissanayake has said that the government will conduct discussions with the vice chancellors for admitting more students to the universities.

Lists of students who lost admission to universities due to the recalculation of Z-scores are being compiled now, the Minister has said.

Vice Chairman of the FUTA Dambara Amila Thero said at a press conference held yesterday in Colombo that the university teachers are giving their full support to the students and recalled that they had assisted for double batch intakes in 1991 and 2000 also.

FUTA officials said that they would support the decisions at the administrative bodies of the universities if the government takes a policy decision in this regard.

Minister Dissanayake has said that the students who had already taken the GCE Advanced level examination on three occasions would be allowed to take the exam for a fourth time. A special cabinet approval would be sought for the measure.

The very people who are going on strikes on various pretexts speak about relief to the students now. These students will fall from the frying pan to the fire if they expect the sympathy from these Teacher Associations. Instead of strikes these teachers and others should promote the studies of the students by getting back to work.

The best policy decision the Government can take is to send all the Students to the Universities in the foreign countries and save them from these Teacher and U. Student Associations who constantly disrupt higher education. The Government also should foot the Bill as they made this blunder.
