Guest houses to come under strict surveillance
WEDNESDAY, 25 JULY 2012 20:55

The police have taken steps to monitor guest houses under a strict plan to curb child molestations and rape cases. A circular had been issued by IGP N.K. A person who has pulled down the Tiger flag, contesting for Trincomalee.
July 22, 2012 at 7:44 pm | Lanka C News

The day 12th September 2004.
Place and the occasion Trincomalee, Opening of the new Court Complex.
The Tigers were dominating the East.Their Dream Capital of the Tiger Eelam state was Trincomalee. A portion of the City was administrated by the Sri Lankan government while the largest portion was ruled by the L.T.T.E.
On the above date, the L.T.T.E. has issued an order that, It s the L.T.T.E. flag with a Tiger head surrounded by bullets within a bloody red background, that should be hoisted during the opening ceremony of the Court Complex.
There was no one who had the courage to oppose this L.T.T.E. order and hoist the Lion Flag, the Symbol of sovereignty of Sri Lanka, or at least to propose such thing. Sri Lankan parliamentarians, who have represented the Tamil and Muslim parties have arrived at the place were preparing to obey and activate the L.T.T.E. order.
This National ceremony, which was participated by the Chief Justice, and the Attorney General, the highest officials of the Sri Lanka Judicial field, was organized similar to a Hindu cultural ceremony, decorated with plantain tree pandols, bunches of King Coconuts, and plantain trees, etc.
Even though, the members of armed forces who were there on guard knew that the Tiger flag will be hoisted above their heads, couldn t do anything as their spines were broken by a shameful peace accord.
The time to hoist the flag was approaching fast.
An old Town Ace van with a driver and one person has arrived at the place.
A dark lean person who wore an ordinary white shirt and black trouser got down from the vehicle. He looked around, spoke with the District Secretary a Tamil lady, and also with the parliamentarians. The police officers have saluted him,and secretly told him regarding a certain activity.
After making a short telephone call he went near the flagpole, where the law and order of the Sri Lankan government should be activated.
This is Sri Lanka, Not the Eelam .
Without any hesitation, the bloody red Tamil Eelam flag was pulled down and ripped into pieces. Within another few moments, the proud symbol of Sri Lanka, the Lion Flag, which was brought by his driver, was tied to the flagpole.
People stood motionless and watched this brave man. Anyone couldn t say that this person wouldn t be a victim of the L.T.T.E. pistol gang within 24 hours.
There was no such person who had the courage to hoist a lion flag in the center of the unofficial Capital City of Tiger Eelam.
Inch by inch, the lean young man has hoisted the Lion Flag in the sky of Trincomalee. After hoisting the National Flag, he honoured the flag by standing at attention in front of the flag for a few minuets. The members of the security forces whose heads were bowed in shame, have proudly raised their heads.
He was the only U.P.F.A. parliamentarian for the Trincomalee District at that time.
The history written by Rev.Wariapola Sri Sumangala Thero, was rewritten by Mr Jayantha Wijesekara.
He was the only J.V.P. parliamentarian who has won an electorate contesting under the U.P.F.A. in the Trincomalee District.
He has entered the politics after been a social activist through the Organization of Protecting the East.
Mr Jayantha Wijesekara was a prominent activist in the historical judicial case to separate the Northern and Eastern Provinces, and the judicial actions taken against the Tsunami Relief Board.
Later he has withdrawn from the politics due to the ideological clashes occurred with J.V.P.
Now, he has reentered the political arena to fulfill the duties which he cannot give up. He will contest for the Trincomalee District in the coming local government elections.
The person whom he had given the telephone call before pulling down the L.T.T.E. flag, is his political leader now.

He is Mr Wimal Weerawansa, the Leader of Jathika Nidahas Peramuna.

There was no space for Mr Jayantha Wijesekara in the U.P.F.A. nomination list for the Trincomalee District. He still has the courage in him which pulled down the L.T.T.E. flag.He has taken a historical decision. He is contesting under the Panchayudhaya Symbol of the Jathika Nidahas Peramuna.

These are the real heroes. Those who run away from the challenges cannot be considered as the Heroes.

We wish him best of luck.
