Will UNP Candidate Rosie Senanayake's Ignorance Give The Much Needed Win?

'Ignorance is Bliss' is a common adage but when such ignorance is exposed by candidates hoping to become future politicians, the bliss can become a disaster for an entire nation. Beauty, charm, poise and decorum are in abundance and no one doubts that in Rosie Senanayake- the UNP candidate at the upcoming Western Province Elections which are just 5 days away. On 25th April 2009 Western Province will conduct Elections and citizens of this country are expected to use brains and not brawn to elect suitable candidates who will be expected to guide the political and administrative functions in the expectation that such candidates will save this country-hopefully?
After 1977, it was well known that the UNP invited Indian film stars and singers to grace the May Day Rallies because they wanted to draw crowds for their meetings. This was to hide the morbid thuggery, brutality and mayhem they initiated to eliminate their opponents. They also enrolled local film stars to be in the forefront of political campaigns to reach out to ignorant citizens for votes. Today, they have placed their bets on one time 'Mrs Sri Lanka' Rosie Senanayake who will hopefully give them the much needed win at the Western Province Elections as against the 17 defeats they have faced during the last 15 years except for the comparatively short period of 2000-2004 period when Ranil Wickramasinghe was Prime Minister of this country with a 60% non-Buddhist Cabinet of Ministers ruling a country of 75% Buddhist population & what happened during that period is a very well known fact. Together with this conspiracy came the rise of Mrs.Senanayake into the political arena in a gradual and systematic manner. We must grant her credit for rising upto the occasion and charming the public but that alone is not adequate to convince the masses on whether she is a suitable politician who can lead the country with the much needed patriotic fervour and commitment at this juncture.
Just as much as Ranil Wickramasinghe(leader of the UNP) not knowing what 'Pas dun Korale' meant or that Sri Lanka already had the largest Stupa already existing in Sri Lanka when he promised people that he would construct the biggest Stupa in Sri Lanka when he wins the elections, so does Rosie Senananayake exhibit her ignorance of facts about Sri Lanka when she makes press statements about our country which is rather flabbergasting to say the least.
In an interview she gave 'Irida Davaina' of 19th April 2009 she makes a sweeping statement ' It was The UNP that Paved the Way for the War Victories We Witness Today'- we begin to wonder whether she truly understood what she was stating? In the same interview she makes another statement 'the strong economic foundation laid by the UNP was destroyed by the government that came into power after 1956.'
In relation to questions asked about the war against terrorism of Prabhakaran and the LTTE, she states that first credit must be given to the late J.R.Jayawardane who commenced a 'relay' against the terrorists and those who changed batons in this relay were the late Ranjan Wijeratne, late Lalith Athulathmudali, the late Janaka Perera and many others. However, she further states that the most credit must be given to Ranil Wickramasinghe because after the Ceasefire Agreement(CFA), the best cadres of the LTTE left the camp and Karuna is a good example of this!
Ignorance can be accepted but being deaf and blind to realities, is an inexcusable fault on the part of this most charming beauty queen since she hopes to continue being a social activist as well as a servant of the people when she takes the plunge into politics. A good politician must know the historical facts about this country accurately without floating in a 'make believe world' hoping that the masses are as foolish as she is to believe what she says as Gospel truth!
It is a very well known fact, that by introducing the Provincial Council system into this country, the late J.R.Jayawardane increased state expenditure drastically and added to the burden of maintaining regional ministers and deputy ministers around the country as well as increased the number of parliamentarians. It is also a very well known fact, that by changing the Constitution of Sri Lanka, he intentionally weakened the majority status of the Sinhalese in this country and with his preferential voting system, he brought dissention within political parties where candidates within one party became enemies towards their own party members and that underworld mafia came into being because of this.
As for credit going to Ranil Wickramasinghe and his infamous Ceasefire Agreement, again it is well and truly documented today, on the traitorous act he masterminded together with Norway and the LTTE, to pave the way not so much towards the war victories of our gallant soldiers which we witness today but the massive income he helped the LTTE generate in the terrorist held territory by encouraging local 'tourists'to visit the North, where the LTTE earned a colossal Rs.4-5million per day at the entry point to Wanni! The LTTE was also given a free hand to establish their own police stations and their courts of law and also establish a tax system from which they exhorted 'kappang' from all businesses conducted in the North and East. By removing the military check-points in the south, he opened the doors for LTTE terrorists to roam the entire country and establish their centres anywhere without any hindrance and for this, Ranil Wickramasinghe's life was guaranteed!
It was during the Premiership of Ranil Wickramasinghe during the 2000-2004 period, that he obtained UNDP funding to upgrade and enhance the communication systems of the TRO office in Kilinochchi. It was also during this period, that he organised pro-LTTE INGOs and NGOs to organise workshops to promote 'peace' for the LTTE but not for the rest of the country. It was also during his premiership that he connived with anti-national forces to undermine the status of the Maha Sangha in this country by organising so called 'awareness workshops' in regional Buddhist Temples, to promote conciliatory attitudes towards terrorism.
Similarly, those who know the UNP and who often say ' even if you slit our veins, it is 'green colour' that runs through them, we will always vote for UNP' are in for a new surprise with his trip to Sydney to attend the International Democratic Union Asia Pacific meeting to be held between 5th -7th October 2006. Sri Lankans who swear by the fact that Ranil Wickramasinghe is a Buddhist and that UNP is a pro-Buddhist Party must know the truth of his current trip to Sydney to attend this conference.
The explanation given in the wikipedia(free encyclopedia) states that ' International Democrat Union(IDU) is an international grouping of conservative and Christian democratic political parties. Formed in 1983, the IDU provides a forum in which political parties holding similar beliefs can come together and exchange views on matters of policy and organizational interest, in order that they might act cooperatively, establish contacts, and present a unified voice toward the promotion of center-right policies across the globe. The group was founded by several prominent heads of state and government, including Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Margaret Thatcher, Vice President of the United States of America George H.W.Bush, Chancellor Helmut Kohl and Mayor of Paris Jacques Chirac. At present, the group, headquartered in London,England and comprising 45 full or associate members is chaired by Prime Minister of Australia John Howard The IDU is associated with several regional organizations-The Democratic Union of Africa, Americas Democratic Union,Asia Pacific Democratic Union, Caribbean Democrat Union and European Democrat Union- as well as the International Young Democrat Union and International Women's Democrat Union. '
In section 1 'Full member parties' there is a list of names of countries who are full member parties(45 as mentioned above). Atleast 97% of these countries are originally Christian whether they be Church of England, Protestants, Catholic, Greek Orthodox or any other sects anyway. Under 'Sri Lanka'- the United National Party is also listed as a full member! Ranil Wickramasinghe is President of IDU Asia Pacific region.
We can now understand why Ranil Wickramasinghe is not relinquishing his post as leader of UNP because he is also the President of IDU Asia Pacific region and the western governments want him to hold on, for their own hidden agendas to destroy Sri Lanka's Buddhist heritage. We can now also understand why for every minute problem in Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickramasinghe would send his confidante Milinda Pinto Moragoda to America or to other western countriesto get advise from the heads of those countries, even at the risk of such advise being to the detriment of the sovereignty of Sri Lanka.
The UNP has never been a political party that represented the ordinary masses- it was always a political party that represented the interests of the business community and the elitist society in the country. Why would the international community of IDU elect Ranil Wickramasinghe as President of Asia Pacific if they were not convinced of his religious and political allegiance to Christian interests? This is also an eye-opener for us to know that Norway is also a full member of the the IDU!
Now we Sri Lankans might be able 'to open our eyes' and look back at the immediate past under the UNP rule and understand a lot of things that happened in this country. When Ranil Wickramasinghe became Prime Minister in 2001 he appointed a Cabinet of Ministers of whom over 60% were Christians by faith he appointed A staunch Catholic as Minister in charge of Interior Affairs under which Public Security and Police come as well as the Dept of Immigration & Emigration (so Visas were freely granted to inbound Evangelists to spread the faith) and he was also the Minister of Christian Affairs during this period the Police were instructed to ensure that the whole month of December was celebrated for Christmas with lighting(in a predominantly Buddhist country) Buddhist ceremonies were given step-motherly treatment and in some cases directives were given not to issue permits for loudspeakers even for important Buddhist functions like Wesak and Poson all illegal prayer centers around the country were given police protection in residential areas Police were instructed to ignore complaints made by Buddhists when they complained about illegal religious activities which created social disharmony within villages the Catholic Archbishop Rt.Rev. Oswild Gomis was appointed Chancellor of Colombo University permission was granted for Christian Evangelical groups to conduct 'Open Air Prayer Healing ' sessions in close proximity to Buddhist temples so that Buddhist ceremonies would be drowned by the loudspeaker noises of the healing sessions etc etc- we can name many more such issues which were conducted to create religious disharmony! It was again during his time that we saw the likes of Dr. Jayalath Jayawardane who again, is an ardent Catholic jumping into the midst of all major Buddhist ceremonies and even conduct the 'Chuda Manike' from Kelaniya to Jaffna as if we were short of Buddhists to do this!

It is well known fact how she manipulated converting the daughter of a late Buddhist President of this country who was famous on all media channels being seen with baskets of flowers visiting temples those days. Today, we do not see the remaining members of his family visiting temples like we used to do in the past!
It was also reported in the newspapers over an year ago, how 'Mrs. Sri Lanka' took boxes of Bibles to a Government Buddhist Girl's School in Maradana for 'enlightening students' on Christianity which backfired because the agitated parents complained to Buddhist Monks who visited the school immediately and removed the Bibles lock stock and barrel!
Just as much as Ranil Wickramasinghe instructed the Director General and General Managers of SLBC and Sri Lanka Rupavahini to remove all nationalist sentiments in this country during his premiership, so does 'Mrs. Sri Lanka' promote the abolition of Sinhala Buddhist heritage and its foundation from this country! This was reported in the 'Lankadeepa' of 14th July 2007 when she was interviewed.
Politicians who serve Sri Lanka must be proud whether they like it or not, of our history and our culture and those who do not hope to preserve them for posterity must not have any place in our political arena. While all religions and races are most welcome to live in peace and harmony in this country as sisters and brothers of one Mother Lanka, anyone who connives or attempts to undermine our cultural heritage which is thousands of years old and which have brought fame to Mother Lanka, must be vehemently shunned by all patriotic forces in this country.
Let the progressive forces of this country decide on 25th April 2009 whether or not Sri Lankans who are proud of our history and culture want to elect and vote for anti-national traitors who wish to erase the most valuable history of Sri Lanka.
