Sri Lanka Minister of Child Development and Women`s Affairs Tissa Karalliyadde says that a draft proposal recommending to impose maximum punishment for the abusers and rapists of women and children has been submitted to the Ministry of Justice.
The Ministry suggests to impose death penalty or life sentence to the offenders.
The penal code is to be amended to impose the maximum punishment and bar any amnesty to the convicts.
The Minister expects that the Ministry of Justice will take action soon to bring amendments to the laws in the parliament.
The government has come under severe criticism for failing to take action against rising violence and sexual crimes on children and women recently

| I agree especially given the loose nature in which organized criminals threaten rape of women in my country America. I believe that a death penalty or life sentence is most appropriate for abusers and rapists of women and children. Being too lenient on them has only created a perverse atmosphere, and made it far more dangerous for our women and children here in the states. |
