A Sri Lankan municipal worker fumigates insecticide to curb mosquito breeding in the Colombo suburb of Wattala on June 29, 2012, during the start of a major clean up operation to tackle the spread of the dengue virus which is transmitted by mosquitoes. Official figures show that 15,000 people were infected with dengue in the first five months of this year compared to 10,300 in the corresponding period last year.

it is mainly a problem in Sri Lanka. Other tropical countries like Malaysia, Singapore successfully containing it. Sri Lanka don't keep focus and don't care. WHen a huge public outcry comes out government try to do something then drop the ball. |

It looks like the Government is trying hard to eradicate Dengue. Good Job.
However if one of these idling officials can provide a breathing mask to this poor guy. He is inhaling this toxic fumes and may well develop serious lung issues laterin life. His kids, family and parents will suffer too.
This is why I always criticize leaders. They are busy in their Air Conditioned offices and SUV's or 5 star hotels. For Gods sake , hold someone accountable for this callous disregard to innocent human life! |

Dengue is not unique to SL

Like SL, north QLD Australia has a tropical rainforest climate usually found along the equator.

| You will never eradicate this disease - there are too many natural locations for the mosquito to breed in - this is just an exercise to make the public think something is being done - I hope it was done at an auspicious time otherwise all the effort would have been worthless |

| How on earth can you eradication mosquito's for a country such as Sri Lanka or India. for that matter any country with green and water will have this problem. what they should do is to prevent the stagnation of water and service the drainage system in the urban areas. |
