SL attracts less FDIS in 2011

Sri Lanka attracted approximately US$ 300 million in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) during 2011, as compared with US$ 478 million and US$ 404 million in 2010 and 2009, according to World Investment Report by UNCTAD (United Nations Conference on Trade and Development)

According to the report, FDI outflows from the country were recorded at US$ 50 million.

However,
Sri Lanka s Board of Investment had previously indicated that Sri Lanka had exceeded US$ 1 billion FDI for 2011,
with a stated target of US$ 1.75 billion in FDI being set for the end of this year.

In terms of FDI attraction ranking, Sri Lanka was rated at 159 out of 182 countries.Pakistan and Bangladesh were ranked above Sri Lanka at 127 and 144, while Afghanistan and Bhutan were ranked at 168 and 174, followed by Nepal at 175.

The JHU addressing the media yesterday said Rajapaksha evaded the earlier opportunity to engage in a constructive debate about the private members Bill which is to be brought into Parliament to ban monks from engaging in politics.

Meanwhile, he also alleged that the manner in which Rajapaksha sat for his Master s degree is debatable and added that there is an ongoing inquiry by the Criminal Investigations Department about the issue. He said that he has complained of this matter to the President. He also alleged that Rajapasksha has evaded taxes.

When Rajapaksa was contacted by Daily Mirror to inquire about the allegations made by the JHU he said that he has already taken steps to initiate legal action against these claims for defamation. He noted that he was not aware of the inquiry conducted by the CID and added that he had already sent a letter of demand to provincial councilor Udaya Gammanpila claiming Rs 500 million for defaming him. I do not see the connection between the Bill and my tax payments and educational qualifications.

Sri Lankan situation is such monks should be allowed to engage in politics.

some cheevaradharins (so-called monks) abuse the situations and they should be treated as any other criminal or a lya politician.

The handful of monks engages in politics are not for their personal gains. Politicians are not doing their part. So, this monks are needed there.

Besides, if you take a count most of the cabinet and the parliament is other religions.

Sri Lankan diplomats serving in overseas missions say it is humorous to hear the President reprimanding mission heads saying their only aim was to educate the children when the President had used all resources in overseas missions to provide facilities to his three sons to be educated overseas.

Raja failed at his Education so he curse others.
