Former Presidential Advisor Hemakumara Nanayakkara alleged that Ministers of the government are like prisoners.

The senior Ministers are like prisoners unable to do what they want to do - even the rest of the cabinet ministers are treated like prisoners. All the funds are concentrated among a few people and many of these Ministers are angry about it. The ministers don t have any funds to work with, he said.

Nanayakkara said the state machinery was completely ridden with corruption. Corruption exists at all levels previously it was only the politicos who were involved but now it has moved down to the officials and bureaucrats and many Ministers have spoken to us about this, he said.

We also taking about this..

. Close on the heels of a warning issued by section of the international community to the government over recent police raid on the shared office of two news websites, Lanka Mirror and Lanka X news (official UNP website), UNP Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa, MP, yesterday alleged that the party s official website had been used to tarnish his image. The MP criticized the failure on the part of the party to take punitive action against those responsible for such action which he called reprehensible.

The US, EU and UN strongly condemned the police raids. The UNP said that nine fundamental rights applications would be filed against the arrest of nine website employees.

Political sources told The Island that an irate Premadasa had demanded to know from UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe what action the party intended to take against those posting remarks disparaging of him on the official website.

The Hambantota District MP raised the issue at yesterday s UNP Working Committee meeting at Sirikotha, chaired by UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe. The UNPer accused MP Ravi Karunanayake of using LankaXnews to slander him.

UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake, MP assured the Deputy Leader that an explanation had been called for from MP Karunanayake. Attanayake assured Premadasa that an inquiry would be held.

UNP Reformists alleged that the official website was being used to ruin their reputations at the behest of the party leadership.

Meanwhile, Lal Perera, on behalf of the Reformists, said that they really appreciated action taken by the government against those using websites to destroy the political careers of UNP MP Karu Jayasuriya, Sajith Premadasa and Democratic National Alliance (DNA) leader Gen. Sarath Fonseka. While reiterating the Reformists support for the media attacking the government over corruption and suppressing the Opposition, Perera urged the government to take all possible measures to close down illegal websites defaming people.

Don,

Thanks. Religion is one thing that we should not tread upon. That is an individual's preference. You can insult a person for what he says or the way he dresses, but never infringe upon his faiths and beliefs.
