The Indian HC said Menon had discussed recent developments, bilateral relations and areas of common concern. He was quoted as saying: 'I was also briefed on steps being taken by the Government of Sri Lanka on political reconciliation and settlement. While this is a Sri Lankan issue and something that Sri Lanka has to do, we will continue to remain engaged with all concerned and offer any support required in this regard.

'India has always stood for a united Sri Lanka within which all citizens can live in equality, justice, dignity and self-respect. We have worked closely with the Government of Sri Lanka on relief, rehabilitation and resettlement of IDPs. India s assistance was appreciated by the Sri Lankan leadership in all my meetings. We remain committed to continue our cooperation.

'We also discussed the fishermen s issue. It was noted that the practical arrangements of October 2008 should be adhered to until an alternative mechanism was agreed upon. We agreed that fishermen s associations on both sides, which had met in the past and reached some understandings, needed to meet again to work on developing this further. This could then serve as the basis for finding a solution to this humanitarian issue.

'On the bilateral front, we noted that most of the Indian-assisted projects were proceeding well and several projects, particularly those relating to the development of railway infrastructure in the Northern and Southern Provinces, were being implemented well ahead of schedule. In the past two years, India has committed US$ 750 million under lines of credit and another US$ 350 million under grants-in-aid. There are a number of other new projects under consideration.

We also discussed maritime cooperation and other security related issues. It was agreed that we could take this further.

Sri Lanka is our close neighbour, with whom we enjoy a multifaceted and dynamic relationship. We look forward to strengthening and further developing this engagement.'

India yesterday expressed its displeasure over the failure on the part of the government of Sri Lanka to break the deadlock in the process of evolving a political solution to the national question, to address land issues in the north and to scale down the presence of military, informed sources said yesterday.

India s National Security Advisor Shiv Sankar Menon, during his one day visit to Sri Lanka held talks with President Mahinda Rajapaksa, External Affairs Minister G.L. Peiris and Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa over various issues.

Particular emphasis was laid on the political solution. Mr. Menon said that his government had increasingly come under domestic compulsions over the impasse in working out a political solution to Tamil speaking people here. During the visit of the Indian parliamentary delegation to Sri Lanka in April, Lok Sabha opposition leader Sushma Swaraj stressed that the stalemate in talks between the TNA and the government should be broken anyhow, and the two sides should resume political talks. Also, she said that the TNA should be persuaded to join the proposed parliamentary select committee if the government considers it as the only viable forum to resolve the problem.

However, Mr. Menon reportedly raised India s concerns yesterday over the failure on the part of the government and the TNA to find a way forward.

After the meeting, he briefed Indian journalists based in Colombo and said, I discussed recent developments, bilateral relations and areas of common concern. I was also briefed about steps being taken by the Government of Sri Lanka on political reconciliation and settlement. While this is a Sri Lankan issue and something that Sri Lanka has to do, we will continue to remain engaged with all concerned and offer any support required in this regard.

India has always stood for a united Sri Lanka within which all citizens can live in equality, justice, dignity and self-respect. We have worked closely with the Government of Sri Lanka on relief, rehabilitation and resettlement of IDPs. India s assistance was appreciated by the Sri Lankan leadership in all my meetings. We remain committed to continue our cooperation.

TNA leader R. Sampanthan told the Daily Mirror that he saw this visit as a further step in India s involvement in getting a political solution to the Tamil speaking people . He said he discussed with Mr. Menon the reasons for the collapse of bipartisan political talks, and the issue over the participation in the select committee.

India is playing double standard.

India is giving TNA the same status as the Sri Lankan govt

that is the major problem.

In india, State politics are bigger than international politics, particularly when it comes to SriLanka.

The Sri Lankan govt bend to India that is another problem.

Other wisem why these Indian A. holes come to Sri Lanka.

Do we need to be pointed fingers at by some other nations ordering us what to do and what not do do?

Where is our sovereignity, statehood, independence we keep talking about?

It seems that Sri Lanka is being governed not by our own government but by many other foreign governments.

Some people are not happy when president travels abroad :)

Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena yesterday said Korea will grant a US $ 49 million loan to Sri Lankan to set up IT laboratories in schools developed under the 1,000 schools development project.

He said this at a ceremony at President's House to grant 3,000 teaching appointments to Information Technology graduates and College of Education diplomates.

The Korean Education Minister had agreed to grant the loan at a concessionary rate, he said.

The Korean government decided to grant the loan after the President's visit to Korea, the minister said.

Owaa okkoma nikan boru kaiwaaru namata witharai.

Till Sri Lanka has to look for foreign cash infusions from the WB and IMF those who manage those will want Sri Lanka to dance to their tunes.

Sri Lanka is 'IN DEPENDENT' of the IMF and WB!
