In a case of serial paedophilia, Divulapitiya Police has arrested the acting principal of a primary school in the area for molesting 11 underage children.

Police said the suspect had molested 10 girls and one boy between the ages of five and 10 years, who are students at the primary school.

The suspect was arrested on Thursday (28) after the Divulapitiya Police received information from the National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) of the said school principal being involved in molesting students.

The suspect was produced before the Minuwangoda Magistrate yesterday and then he was ordered to be remanded till 7 July.

The Magistrate also ordered police to hand over the children, who had been victimized by the paedophile to their parents.

Police is currently trying to identify whether the said principal had been involved in molesting other children outside the school premises.

An officer attached to Divulapitiya Police told Ceylon Today that they believe there are more students, who would have been victimized but are not coming forward. Divulapitiya Police is currently conducting further investigations.

It is also report that the editor of this paper Ruwan Ferdinand's house is also being surrounded by security officers at the same time.

Ruwan Ferdinandas had an informant within and disappeared well before the raid.

It is reported that there exists a serious crisis within the government regarding the nominations for chief ministers portfolios in the North Central and Eastern provincial councils.

There is a three cornered struggle going on between the present chief minister for North Central PC Berty Premalal Dissanayake, Minister of Agrarian Services and Wildlife S.M. Chandrasena and Minister of Health Maithripala Sirisena to get the chief minister s post.

Minister Maithripala Sirisena is adamant that the post should come to Polonnaruwa District as Polonnaruwa had not been considered for the post in the history of provincial councils.

It is also reported that Minister S.M. Chandrasena is prepared to resign from his ministerial portfolio to get nominated for the chief ministerial post.

Present Chief Minister for Eastern Provincial Council Pilleyan states he would not give up his post while Sri Lanka Muslim Congress states it should get the post this time.
