According to reports the office of a well-known online daily newspaper based in Colombo, Sri Lanka is currently being raided. The raid is being conducted by dozens of security officers of the Ministry of Defense. According to a source quoted in the Sri Lanka Guardian, the security officers entered the offices showing a search warrant but are preventing people inside the premises from leaving and also preventing anyone outside from entering.
It is also report that the editor of this paper Ruwan Ferdinand`s house is also being surrounded by security officers at the same time.
Attacks on online newspapers and websites have been going on for several months now and several online publications have been banned in Sri Lanka. Sophisticated technology is being used to keep to maintain the ban and to control all internet publications.
Earlier the Sri Lanka Mirror was banned along with others but after a court case it was allowed to operate. Now suddenly it has been raided.
Regarding the ongoing suppression of web publications we reproduce a forwarded statement published earlier.
Last week the president of the Federation of University Teachers` Unions, Nirmal Ranjith Devasiri, complained that some persons saying that they were from the Ministry of Defense visited his neighbourhood and inquired after his whereabouts.
The extent to which the Ministry of Defence is interfering into the liberties of persons in Sri Lanka is reflected in the statement we issued today.

Brown and his one sided view of Sri Lanka, fast getting bored of his unfair policies on LNP.
Mr B, how come you only allow senior members to initiate discussions?? Before you complain of others, try to be democratic yourself. How come you haven't allowed any others to be senior members??????. |

I dont think Brown expressed his opinion here. He is simply posting articles for others to discuss. His main ideas is to increase traffic. :)
Regarding this raid.. I would say kill all the traitors. Anyone who says anything against the govt is a traitor.

This time, firstly, the Govt should set up an example by selecting proper candidates for the Provincial councils.
Up to now, govt is letting criminals, thieves and crooks come into politics and when people are complaining govt blame voters.
Because, everybody knows that opposition politicians changed the side in order to escape many different kinds of accusations. The govt has given refuge to all those criminals.
Govt also need to be transparent to the voters.
Though majority of the general public don't understand even the dumbest people has some sense of what the govt is doing.
REMEMBER, how when the opposition parties, International community was against the govt, 84% of the people supported the govt.
Why the govt cannot do that again ?
When the govt changes most people will change and start supporting the govt.
REMEMBER how Buddha defeated the opposition.
Politicians must do self-reflection. Everything they are doing is for EGO and POWER.
It looks they have hit the walls with respect to their capability of governing. |

Mr. Brown is letting us express our views.
Those news sites are funded by special interest groups.
Only thing is we don't allow dhobis to dominate here. That is why they are blaming Brown. |

Mr B is playing the Devils Advocate here, he's making Billions through advertising on LNP, we're the mugs who fills his pockets by coming here daily and commenting, what do we get in return??? time he got rid of this unfair practice of only allowing senior members to initiate discussions, what's the point in having senior members when all they do is convolute every topic with filth??. People who are not seniors are denied the same right, how can anyone say that is democratic????????
Btw... why is it that both threads yesterday (Picture & Main) was on the same topic?? For what purpose???
Regarding this raid.. I would say kill all the traitors. Anyone who says anything against the govt is a traitor.
I wouldn't go as far as advocating killing anyone, but there must be some underlying reasons for the govt to raid this joint which we're not aware of.
Who knows who's behind this News Org, it could be Ltte money, it could be NGO money, it could be Indian money in order to create trouble in Sri Lanka and show our country in a bad light, without knowing the full facts I'm not willing to condemn the govt at this point in time. Take that Sunday Leader as an example, do you think all that crap they print is just investigative journalism, I doubt it very much, most of that crap is written at the behest of someone else, paid for by people with an axe to grind against the govt.
Learn to look behind the obvious, learn to read between the lines.!

If Mr B wants to be seen as democratic: A balanced view might help, Mr B is like some top dumpster diver searching for any garbage to post here because he knows the calibre of the stupid munchkins who visit here.

As for this Web Site?? I have to be frank here, I have not heard of it before. Can anyone here give me a link to it??? What is their Mission Statement?? Does anyone know???
Sri Lankan student Haresh Selvaskandan will carry Olympic Torch in London on July 2nd

I found this story quite enlightening, showed me their is some hope for us all as Sri Lankans.
Mr B is not interested in promoting Sunny News like this about Sri Lanka, WHY because he wants you & me to be at each others throat all the time. WHY, because it helps him to keep the LNP traffic flow up and helps him to keep earning him Billions in advertising revenue.
Mr. Brown is letting us express our views.
It could be argued Mr B is being very selective, 'If it bleeds, it leads' kind of journalism.
Those news sites are funded by special interest groups.
No different to LNP, all have got an agenda including LNP. Don't fool yourself otherwise.

If Mr B wants to be seen as democratic: A balanced view might help,
What Joe Ublic saying is that he is the ultimate demoratic guy and because of that, to appoint him the moderator of the LNP.
Otherwise, how do you decide what the democratic view is.
Even the govt ministers say that the govt is full of criminals and most of the State Owned Enterprises are not either performing or simply losing.
when there are so many budget air lines are competing for the same traffic, MihinAir lines suddenly reports 43% profit.
I say, Mr. Brown does not publish that kind of funny information about Sri lanka.

Some one has to investigate to see how much Tamils paid to the Olympic business owners. Olympic is not the govt as in SriLanka. It is a business consortium. |
