Sri Lanka`s major Tamil political party, the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) says the Navy is occupying a two kilometer stretch of coastal land area in the North to set up a camp.
TNA parliamentarian Suresh Premachandran has said the land area occupied by the Navy is in Thiruvadinilai, Mathagal, about 16 kilometers north of
Jaffna.
The parliamentarian has said that he had visited the area last weekend to see for himself if the land was in fact occupied by the Navy.
Premachandran has said that the fisher folk are threatened by the Navy`s occupation of land in the Mathagal area. It was a fertile land area of two kilometers, he has added.
`Already a big naval base exists in Karainagar. With the end of conflict it is absurd to set up another camp in the Mathagal area. The intended camp will cause greater inconvenience for the fisher folk in the region,` Premachandran has told the media.
According to the TNA parliamentarian, the issue of alleged land grab by the state in northern areas would be raised with
India`s National Security Advisor Shi Shankar Menon who is to visit Sri Lanka at the end of this month.
