More than 400 Lankan workers died overseas last year: MEA report
Eight Sri Lankans committed suicide, 89 were killed in accidents and 318 died of natural deaths while working overseas last year, according to a Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) report submitted to Parliament last Tuesday.
The majority of the 417 deaths took place in Saudi Arabia. Some 87 Sri Lankan workers died there while 48 died in Kuwait and 30 in Qatar, the report says.
Pointing out that the next of kin of a Sri Lankan worker who dies in a foreign country is entitled to receive compensation, salary dues, gratuity and insurance payments, the report claims that the Ministry last year collected about Rs. 180 million in compensation from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Kuwait, Lebanon and the Republic of Korea.

That is why Tamils were taken all around the world by the white master ........ to do coolie work. You have forgotten that.
This people come back to Sri Lanka at least to be buried.

June 25, 2012 (LBO) - Sri Lanka's state-run budget carrier Mihin Lanka, has made profits of 2.0 billion rupees before tax, on revenues of 4,576 million rupees in the nine months to December 2011 according to a finance ministry report.
nice figures.
But if you continue the article, it says...
its long term liabilities rose to 4.39 billion rupees from 2.23 billion rupees.

In May Athiraman Kannan, a 32-year-old Indian foreman, jumped to his death from the 147th floor of the Burj Khalifa, the world s tallest building. Local media reports said that Kannan jumped after his employer denied granting him leave to go home. His death was the 26th known suicide by an Indian worker in the country in 2011
This is in UAE alone.

what a stupid comment is this..we all knew that since its inspection mihin was losing money and to expect a capital intensive investment like mihin to not to have liabilities is just poor understanding of economics...even mihin has able to turnaround this quickly is an amazing achievement but im sure this was achieved mainly by transferring major proportion of the costs to srilankan accounts and thus making srilankan to bleed just to show mihin is performing....but for fonsekites no context is important when it comes to criticizing just for the sake of it! |
